UTV Training - Strengthening Regional Response

Seven members of the Lucketts Volunteer Fire Company recently participated in a regional Utility Terrain Vehicle (UTV) training course designed to strengthen our ability to operate in environments that are difficult or impossible for standard emergency vehicles to access.

The course brought together twenty-five students, eight UTVs, and four instructors, creating an excellent environment for hands-on learning and interagency collaboration. The training began with a classroom session at Aldie Volunteer Fire Department Fire Station 7, where participants reviewed operational guidelines, safety considerations, and best practices for UTV deployment during emergency incidents. Following the classroom portion, crews moved to the trail system at Gilbert’s Corner Regional Park for practical exercises. These hands-on evolutions allowed students to apply what they learned in the classroom while navigating terrain similar to what responders encounter during real-world incidents.

A key benefit of the training was the opportunity to work alongside neighboring departments. Training together helps build familiarity between crews, strengthens communication, and improves operational coordination when multiple agencies respond to incidents in the field.

We would like to extend a special thank you to the Aldie Volunteer Fire Company for hosting and organizing this training opportunity. Their support made it possible to bring together personnel from several departments for a valuable day of instruction and skill development.

Training opportunities like this help ensure our members remain prepared to safely and effectively operate specialized equipment across a wide range of environments. Continuous training and regional collaboration are essential to maintaining a high level of service. Interested in getting involved?

The Lucketts Volunteer Fire Company is always looking for community members who want to serve and make a difference. No prior experience is required—training and mentorship are provided for operational and support roles.
