The Lucketts Volunteer Fire Company’s new Support Services Unit was called out to a major brush fire that burned through more than 100 acres near Waterford on March 1, whipped up by unusually dry conditions and high winds. The cause was determined to be an unattended burn pile that had not been completely extinguished after being ignited three weeks earlier.
The Lucketts Company’s off-road UTV immediately proved its value, allowing Lucketts volunteers to deliver cold drinks and snacks to grateful firefighters who had been toiling for hours to contain the blaze.
The incident occurred just one week after the Company began staffing its new unit around the clock. The Support Services Unit is the major initiative of the Company in the past year, and our volunteers have been very appreciative of the many new members from the community who have joined in recent months to help make it a reality.
To find out how you can join our Support Services Unit, or become an operational (firefighter/EMT) member, please visit our Volunteer! page. It takes only a few hours of training to become fully qualified as a Support Services Aide/Tech and begin helping us keep other first responders safe.
